Academic Personnel
The Scripps Oceanography academic personnel office is responsible for the management and administration of academic affairs for the institution. As of July 2012, there were 419 academics at Scripps, including 143 faculty members (including emeriti, adjunct, and in-residence), 112 researchers (including emeriti), 23 project scientists, 10 specialists, 34 research associates, and 97 postdoctoral scholars. The office reviews and analyzes all academic personnel actions, including senate and non-senate appointments, merits, promotions, appraisals, retentions, terminations, leaves, salary administration, affirmative action, visas, principal investigator exception requests and policy exception requests. Our mission is to provide expert advice and outstanding service to the vice chancellor for marine sciences, associate deans, division directors, faculty, MSOs and departmental/divisional staff members regarding all academic personnel policies and actions.
Academic personnel policies and procedures are complex and confidential and require attention to detail and discretion. There are two staff members in the office.
