Operator

Caroline's Seaside Café is operated by GCIUFFA, INC., which owns and operates Giuseppe Restaurants & Fine Catering of La Jolla, a longtime provider of customized catering services for meetings, conferences, and other events held at the Scripps Seaside Forum. GCIUFFA, INC. also operates the Cafe at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla and the European-style bistro Sculpture Court Cafe at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park.

Quality and Value

With a focus on organic and sustainable resources, hormone-free meats and poultry, locally grown fresh produce, and seafood selections meeting nationally recognized sustainability criteria, Caroline's Seaside Cafe by GIUSEPPE adheres to the goals of UC San Diego's Sustainable Food Services Plan. Though generally more expensive for the operator to use organic and Fair Trade certified ingredients, washable china, glassware, utensils, and compostable take-away containers, Giuseppe is committed to operating in this way, while striving to keep prices affordable for the primary clientele of Scripps Oceanography and UC San Diego students and employees. Beginning Nov. 21, 2011, UCSD students, faculty, staff and affiliates presenting an official UCSD identification card will enjoy a 20% discount on orders placed during weekday hours of operation.

About the Name

Caroline's Seaside Cafe is named in honor of a member of the family of William E. Nierenberg, who served as Scripps director for 21 years from 1965 to 1986. Although Nierenberg passed away in 2000, his family continues its connection and long-time generous support of Scripps Oceanography.
