What: Presentation on “Ocean in Google Earth” launched this week

Where: Sumner Auditorium on the campus of Scripps Oceanography, 8602 La Jolla Shores Drive in La Jolla, Calif. Street parking is available.

When: Wednesday, Feb. 4, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Background: Members of the public are invited to attend a presentation with Scripps Data Manager Steve Diggs about the latest features to explore the ocean in Google Earth.  Steve attended the Google upgrade launch in San Francisco on Monday, Feb. 2, and will discuss the latest news on Google’s dive into the ocean and how Scripps can provide data and other content into a future “Scripps layer.”

Scripps professor David Sandwell and his NOAA colleague supplied the global bathymetry data for the three-dimensional backdrop required for the new ocean feature in Google Earth.  Scripps also contributed to the “Ocean Expeditions” layer with details of R/V Melville recent two-and-a-half year research voyage.  Scripps news release: http://scrippsnews.ucsd.edu/Releases/?releaseID=956
