Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues (GISOI)

The Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues, is an administrative body comprised of UCSD staff, faculty and students. The committee operates under the charge of Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and was established in Fall 1994 by then-Chancellor Richard Atkinson.

The Charge of the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues is:

  • To identify and analyze the needs and concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender and intersex(LGBTI) staff, faculty and students, alumnae/alumni, and affiliates at UCSD,
  • To work in conjunction with and in support of the LGBT Center and other appropriate departments to inform and educated the entire UCSD community about the issues that affect LGBTI community,
  • To advise and make recommendations for policies, procedures and practices that would improve conditions for the LGBTI community at UCSD.

This charge is in accord with the University of California's nondiscrimination policy, which states:

"...nor does the University discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. This policy covers admission, access, and treatment in University programs and activities, and application for or treatment in University employment.

The LGBTRO Resource Center at UCSD officially opened its doors on November 8 1999 with a Dedication Celebration. Guests at the festivities included Chancellor Robert Dynes, Slam Poet, Staceyann Chin, and DJ Doctor Trae!
