Euan Mitchell:Graduate StudentUniversity of New Mexico
My name is Euan and I am from Edinburgh, Scotland, where I grew up in the shadow of an extinct volcano. I recently finished my undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool in England, where I worked on the palaeomagnetism of some very old volcanic rocks in Scotland, and have just arrived at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque to study as a Masters student with Tobias Fischer. This expedition to the Izu Islands will be my first experience of working on, and sampling, active volcanoes. The results from the samples that we are going to collect from the volcanoes along the arc will form the basis of my Masters thesis here at UNM. I hope to use the chemical and isotopic composition of these samples to understand more about the mantle source region of the volcanoes and the flux of volatiles through the arc system. |
