What Are Clinoforms?

What is a clinoform?
A sedimentary deposit that has a sigmoidal(or S) shape. They can range in size from centimeters (like sand dunes) to kilometers (such as entire continental shelves), and can grow horizontally in response to sediment supply and physical limits on sediment accumulation.

What is a subaqueous-delta clinoform (SDC)?
It is a specific type of clinoform found on the continental shelf seaward of the mouths of large rivers, including the Fly, Yangtze, and Ganges-Brahmaputra. They are built from the discharged river sediments. Foreset beds typically experience the highest rates of sediment accumulation, commonly more than several centimeters per year. Shown below is seismic-reflection profile of the Fly River SDC collected with a 3.5 kHz echosounder.
