IPCC Conference held at Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

Results of the long-awaited Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) were released on Feb. 2, 2007, in Paris at a press conference that generated headlines around the world.

On the same day, Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego organized a corresponding press conference at the Birch Aquarium at Scripps. The event featured Tony Haymet, Scripps Oceanography director, Lynne Talley, a lead author of the new IPCC report and V. Ramanathan, an IPCC report review editor. They were joined by climate scientists Ralph Keeling, Tim Barnett, and Dan Cayan in providing analysis of the report's results as well as perspectives from their own diverse research interests.

Note: Richard Somerville, a coordinating lead author of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, was in Paris for the report's release.
