Cruise Plan
Bray Cruise
16 August 1995
R/V Gordon Sproul
Cruise Goals: The purpose of this cruise is to
check out a new towed ADCP package. We will first
gain some experience deploying and recovering the
package. We will then tow in an 8 point star pattern,
approximately 20 minutes/leg, to provide GPS post
processing calibration information. Finally, we will tow a reciprocal
course in sharply deepening water to
adjust bottom track parameters.

Equipment, Safety, and Contingencies: While the
towed instrument is new, it is similar to an
existing instrument. CCS personnel have developed
safe methods for deployment and recovery. All
deck operations will be under the direction of
a deck boss. All personnel will be required to
work in a safe manner using standardized procedures.
The work is scheduled in the submerged submarine
transit lane Sierra Zeus and involves towing an
instrument submerged at 20 meters. No submarine
transits are scheduled in the Local Notice to
Mariners, August monthly edition. Should transits
be announced in the weekly supplement, work
can be moved north of the transit lane off Mission
Bay where bottom topography is also suitable.
The additional transit time may extend the cruise
somewhat.
