Rose, etc.  I realized I had not sent this in yet!  Hope it is not too
late (i.e., do we need Navy clearance for the Santa Barbara Basin?).  



The following is a tentative plan for Bernhard's Robert Gordon
Sproul cruise from October 1 through 5:

10/01/96, 0800 hrs: Depart MarFac, steam to Santa Barbara Basin.

10/02/96, 0600 hrs: Box core Site I (34o13.0'N, 120o02.0'W;
approximate water depth 594 m).  As the scientific party
processes samples, the ship can start to slowly steam toward next
site at ~0900 hrs.

10/02/96, 1100 hrs: Box core Site II (34o13.5'N, 120o02.0'W;
approximate water depth 600 m).  As the scientific party
processes samples, the ship can start to slowly steam toward next
site at ~1400 hrs.

10/02/96, 1600 hrs: Box core Site III (34o15.5'N, 120o02.0'W;
approximate water depth 585 m).=20

10/02/96, 1900 hrs: Plankton tow north of shipping lanes (around
34o19.0'N, 120o02.0'W).
  
10/03/96, 0630 hrs: Box core at Site IV  (34o20.9'N, 120o0'W;
approximate water depth 500 m).=20

10/03/96, 1100 hrs: Box core at Site V (34o20.4'N, 120o00.5'W;
approximate water depth 530 m).=20

10/03/96, 1600 hrs: Box core at Site VI (34o19.0'N, 120o02.0'W;
approximate water depth 552 m).=20


10/04/96, 0600 hrs: Box core at Site VII (34o17.25'N, 120o02.0'W;
approximate water depth 578 m). =20


10/04/96, 1000 hrs: Ship can start steaming for port.


10/05/96, 0800 hrs: Return to MarFac, offload, and clean ship.

Of course, this schedule relies on ideal weather conditions, and
is apt to change.
