Subject: Plan for 30 Oct Sproul trip
Cc: shipsked@ucsd.ucsd.edu
Louie, and Tam; Here is a work plan for my next Sproul cruise.
Wednesday 30 Oct Evening: Depart so as to arrive off Red Beach at daylight or
so the next morning.
Thursday, 31 Oct Begin deployment of OBSs. The array will be about 50 meters
across, and the near-shore end will be in about 10 meters of
water (at low tide). There are 13 instruments to deploy
so we will probably not finish before dark.
Evening: run some bathymetric survey lines
Friday, 1 Nov Complete deployment of OBSs. Acoustically survey array.
When this is done, depart for deep-water cangun test.
This will consist of up to about three lowerings of a
metal cylinder can with a ceramic plate on the end.
Depending on the result of the first test, we may
want to try to use a glass-breaker on one of the
later tests.
This requires 700 or 800 meters of water depth, so we need
to be in the San Diego Trough (location not critical).
Since we do not have to steam, we ask to do this on
an op-area boundary.
If deployment of OBSs takes longer than planned, I
would like to do this on Saturday morning just before
we go in, so an area close to San Diego would be the
most convenient.
Louie, do you have a "favorite location" for this?
Saturday 2 Nov Return to port.
