April 2-5, 1996 Cruise Plan aboard the R/V Sproul
The objective of this cruise is to recover 7 surface moorings located off
the Ventura coast. If time and weather permits bottom samples (~1 liter)
will also be taken at each station. This will be conducted with a sampler
provided by the Resident Tech group. Diving will be conducted only if the
moorings/anchors cannot be recovered using the surface moorings. At which
time a dive team will attempt to recover the instrument.
On April 1 and 2, 1996 and dive team from UCSD and UCSB will attempt to
jet out the buried anchors form a small boat. This will help to remove
the ~3 ft of sediment that is covering the anchors. On April 3, 1996,
one person from shore will board the R/V Sproul and help in the recovery
operations. This person, Cary Humphries, will depart the R/V Sproul on or
before April 4, 1996, at 1600.
A load cell will be positioned in line with the block on the A-Frame to
determine the load we are exerting on the mooring line. This will help us
manage any unforseen forces on the mooring line and also will give us
data for the future design of mooring systems.
Two visiting science crew members will be sleeping the night aboard the
Sproul on April 1,1996.
