MMS CRUISE NO. 12
R/V SPROUL
18-25 March 1996


Cruise Goals

     This is a mooring ops and survey cruise, focused on the Southern
California Bight.

     Mooring Ops: deploy 35 m and 350 m moorings along CAMP, PAIN and ABMI
transects, weather permitting recover ANIN and ANOF (diving involved).

     Surveys: CTD at either end of SBC, ADCP, XBT and Met. within the SBC
and SMB.


Dates

Summary:  0900 18 March 1996 - leave San Diego
     0900 25 March 1996 - return San Diego


18 March  Leave Nimitz Marine Facility at 0900 heading for CAMP then ABOF.

19 March  Deploy ABOF 1000.  Deploy ABIN @ 1600.  Anchor in Pt. San Luis
outer harbor to reset deck and check instrumentation.

20 March  Deploy PAIN (in 35 m) 0600, deploy PAOF 1000, steam to Government
Pt. to reset deck and check instrumentation.  Deploy CAIN (CAMP inshore)
1800, deploy CAOF 2200.

21 March  Begin SMIN - SMOF CTD line @ 0100.  Steam towards Pt. San Luis @
1000.  Begin ADCP - XBT survey @ 1700.

22 March  Continue survey.

23 March  End survey @ ANOF at 1000.  Recover ANOF, recover ANIN @ 1400,
begin ANOF - ANIN CTD line @ 1800.

24 March  Steam towards SD.

25 March  Tie-up at 0900 at Scripps Nimitz Marine Facility.

(Note that there is a one day allowance for weather, according to the
schedule.  The Sproul needs to be back in SD before 0900 on 26 March.)
