The Volcanic and Geothermal Fluid Analyses Laboratory
in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University
of New Mexico is equipped with a state of the art gas chromatography
system for the quantification of He, Ar, N2, H2, O2, CH4, CO and
hydrocarbons. We use a dual carrier gas system, a Dual Thermal Conductivity
Detector and Flame Ionization Detector. A vacuum system is used
for sample inlet as well as splitting of gas samples for subsequent
isotopic analyses. The wet chemsitry component of the laboratory
allows us to quantify the CO2, SO2, H2S, HCl, and HF concentration
of the samples.
